I have heard it said it takes 21 days to kick a habit. I wonder if smoking takes longer than that. So far, I haven’t pissed any other drivers off or caused any accidents… but it is only day two.

Gotta hand it to (and thanks to Goldy since I didn’t record it) Brad Blog for the Secular Central clip. Wherever this “War on Christmas” is coming from somebody needs to be drawn and quartered. I would start with “O’really” and work my way back from there. My observation on television pundits is that without substance and content they eventually become irrelevant. Perhaps an increase in education funding will put the “spin” where it belongs… mine flushes clockwise.

Humor makes this easier.

In the comments section my brother wrote this little piece of wisdom:

As your non-smoking nazi brother, I applaud your resolve to quit smoking. I thank you, your mom thanks you, and non smokers the world over will thank you. However, I must confess that I am deeply cynical when someone claims that they are “quitting” smoking. I think this word “quit” is thrown around way too freely. And it denies the true addictive power of cigarettes. In an existential sense there is no such thing as quitting smoking unless you persist to not smoke until death. In reality it is merely a pausing of one’s smoking habit and one must remain vigilant in this mode of pause.

There is a line I always liked from Robin William’s character in that movie Dead Again:
“Someone is either a smoker or a non-smoker, there’s no in-between. The trick is to find out which one you are and be that.”

The rational is clear. And since “quitting” smells of failure my terminology will change along with washing all my clothes in the closet of which I am sure to be smelling in a couple days.

No OPC today. If you are quitting, you will know what that means.

Thanks for the note Bro, and I remember this Carlin quote:

“Having a smoking section in a restaurant is like having a peeing section in a swimming pool.”
