Hey Mr. Vance, Remember that Cowboy Hat?

Last October following the Eastern Washington Democratic Conference, then GOP Chairman Chris Vance wrote an editorial in the Tri-City Herald (of which I responded) stating that Democrats are losing in Eastern Washington because they are “wrong on the issues”.  For the life of me I can’t imagine what the issues we Democrats are so wrong about over here as we watch the GOP agenda sink in public opinion.  Facts of the matter are that Republican and Democratic voters in Eastern Washington are equally puzzled by our Congressional leadership.  But even more important was Vance’s Freudian admission of what the GOP was most afraid of.  A Democrat who truly represents the values of Eastern Washington voters.

The Democrats act as if their losing streak in Eastern Washington, and in other “red” areas of the country, are because of some stylistic difference. They seem to think that if they find a candidate who wears a cowboy hat, goes to church and talks tough on national security issues, he has a good shot at winning.

We don’t have to look very far to see that national security issues may have as well been under the leadership of former FEMA Director Mike Brown.  And as far as understanding Eastern Washington, I think this guy has Congresswoman McMorris beat.

And hey look, there’s them dang brains under that hat too!

Peter Goldmark has a life-long association with agriculture, science and public service.

Peter was appointed Director of Agriculture by Governor Lowry in 1993, and the Board of Regents of Washington State University in 1996.  He also served as Chairman of the Governor’s Council on agriculture and the Environment in 1994-96, a member of the Governors Council for a Sustainable Washington in 2002-03…

Click the links and read it yourself.  Goldmark is the real deal, not just an empty cowboy hat. And with that said, be sure to watch Gerald on http://www.ewpolitics.com for more on Goldmark.  And voters in the 5th, yes you netrootsy types, it is time to open up the wallet and give till it hurts.  This is your opportunity.  I’m giving and it isn’t even my congressional district!

Definitely nothing wrong with a little cowboy hat from time to time if the politics are right. This should be a breath of fresh air from the kind of hat Bush represents. As they say in Texas about Bush, “he is all hat and no cattle”.
