Pasco Immigration Rally - Other News - Open Thread
Last week I stopped by to check out the rally in Pasco. I have mixed feelings about the immigration laws, the rally’s and a variety of other related items. It has been hard to form an opinion for me because of my experiences, and that has been the case for years. But Matt has a thoughtful post and I share much of his observation. Important to note that Matt is a Republican. I despise politicians who use this issue for political reasons. It goes against the grain of what I consider to be our social fabric. At the same time there seems to be a breaking point for how much the US can absorb. I have no answers.
Other News:
Drinking Liberally may get a move pending the approval of those who attend. Frankly, the dungeon of the Tuscany Lounge is wearing on me. To dark and too loud to have a meeting of the minds in my opinion. So I took the liberty of talking with the Manager at Atomic Ale on Lee Blvd. in Richland. He was warm to the idea of Drinking Liberally coming to the Atomic and the politics match the venue as well. Summer will also bring a nice outdoor patio. Tuesday nights are ideal according to the Atomic so I would ask for some feedback. The plan would be Tuesdays at 7 PM. Thoughts?
Other Other News:
The light posting here on McCranium is still due to construction issues with the rental and other related items. Things will heat up soon with elections and there is a library bond issue I will be posting about that is coming up very soon. So stay tuned, I haven’t gone away, I am just occupied by consequence.
And speaking of elections, be sure to visit Richard Wright’s web site for latest news on his campaign. You can also contribute on my Act Blue Page.

The move of Drinking Liberally is appreciated. Although I’m tied up for the next few Tuesdays, I WILL be able to make it occassionally at that time- cool!

Re: the immigration rallies, I’m kinda fence-sitting myself. For me, it’s easier to say what I’m NOT in favor of: (1) waving Mexican flags and singing the national anthem in Spanish, (2) deporting/giving amnesty to all current illegal immigrants, (3) turning a blind eye on businesses/citizens who employ illegal immigrants, (4) the status quo.
It’s clear that our immigration policy is in terrible shape, but who is gonna fix it? To my ears, it sounds like both parties are too far to either extreme on this issue.

I know what you mean. But in some sense, I think many in both parties don’t know what the real answer is. And problematic to this is the right’s move to politicize this issue for political clout with voters. It is a foolish move since all solutions on the table have undesired consequences. Kinda funny huh! Just like the fear sell, that has neocon poll numbers in the cellar, they keep extending the same strategy in hopes something will break. That old definition of insanity comes to mind. Unfortunately, there is still a large faction of our population that buys into this crap.
