Netroots Fundraising - Bill Sherman

October 10th, 2007 by Jimmy · 2 Comments

I’d be amiss to not schmooze in on yet another netroots fundraiser in the Northwest. This one for the Democratic candidate for King County Prosecutor, Bill Sherman. This race, having literally no significant bearing on my district, county or city that I can fathom still has a twist. After the sudden death of the highly respected Norm Maleng, it was ON! GOP pundit and lousebag extrordinaire Luck Esser seems intent on replacing the republican Maleng with another republican, Dan Scatterberg. Ironically, prominent democrats in King County have offered up endorsements to Scatterberg despite great credentials from Sherman and the fact that Sherman has close ties with the KC prosecutor office. At first blush this race looked like it was a simple shoe-in for the republican. After all, an R getting D endorsements is no small feat in deep blue King County. But something else is going on here that is extremely noteworthy… the Netroots are saying no.

It’s not that either of these two candidates are not qualified. That seems to go without saying. But I can only agree that at this junction, post Maleng’s death, it may be a good time to re-think replacing a republican with another republican is a simple solution. While Maleng was praised as a fair, honest and to the law prosecutor, there is no gaurantee a republican successor would be the same. And if Luke Esser is drooling at the opportunity to hold this position in the R, I’m even more aprehensive.

While I’m not vested in this race, I am vested in netroots activism. These types of races aren’t the kind to ignore. I mentioned this race earlier in the context of non partisan races being targets for party recruiting and the how party politics, and attacks, play their role. And I also mention the genuine importance of candidate recruitment… and that somehow we all just have to accept the slash and burn that comes with it. But the bottom line is these races count.

So if you got your netroots activist suit on, go check out Bill Sherman’s fundraising page and throw him a few bucks. You don’t have to live there to live it. This is a guy that deserves our support.

King County will always replace anyone with a loony leftist … espcially if the replacee is a fair and honest republican.

I think there will be few R’s left in this state when this current leftist wave finally crests.

    So much for diversity…

Jimmy - Good on ya to put in a word about this fund raising.

Maleng was a rare breed. That’s why he stood out. Expecting Satterberg to be the second coming is a lost cause. We live in a different world than when Norm Maleng was elected as King County Prosecutor. These days the R and D by your name clearly differentiates your mindset and values. For that reason, we cannot allow another Republican, a modern Republican, to take this office and mold it in their image. That path leads to corruption, contempt for the law, abuse of power, and an immoral value system. That’s what Republicans have given us in the past seven years, and it is time they’re held to account.
