Savage Vote…

Slogging on Slog, Dan Savage was listening to AG candidate John Ladenburg on KUOW, and while commenting on Ladenburg’s position on gay marriage, he makes this surprising revelation…

I’ll probably vote for Ladenburg in the fall—his position on marriage equality is indistinguishable from this guy’s position—but I’ll do it with some reservations. Rob McKenna is a GOP hack and all, but he is the only female-to-male transsexual that has ever won a state-wide race in Washington state. I want to be a good Democrat, but I also want to support FTM visibility and McKenna helps break down stereotypes about transsexuals.

Whoa… I need to get up to speed…

Hold on there a second sportsfans…

I’ve been sitting around wondering why I haven’t been writing here that much lately, when this lands on my desk…

Ha! It looks like I’ve been in England writing sports commentary! Good to know… now where’s my check!

Fortunately, or perhaps unfortunately, my sports page friends noticed something peculiar about this Jim McCabe guy from the Boston Globe. Foremost being that the guy in the picture was neither waxing a dead tree about golf, or anywhere near Southport England… he was at his desk in Central Washington (or on a motorcycle somewhere).

We’ve seen much more entertaining mistakes from the Tri-City Herald over the years. But at least this one has my picture on it.

Well, this must be my cue so I better get busy… if I’m not going to get out-shined by that other Jim McCabe…

(Hmm… maybe I’ll try the turtleneck next time.)

Drinking Liberally in the Tri-Cities

It’s Tuesday and John McCain is another week older.  Imagine that. And oh yeah!  Drinking Liberally is tonight! I highly encourage the old AND the young to come on down and celebrate the fact that even while losing a few brain cells to a DL gathering, you still have more to spare than the presumptive republican presidential nominee.

Cheers!

Whistling Jacks has Lodge Fries!!!

Oh yeah!!!  On my ride today I stopped into Whistling Jacks Lodge on highway 410 heading to Mt. Rainier.  I like to stop there since I’m usually hungry by then.  But today I noticed all reference to the French had been removed.

French Fries = Lodge Fries

French Dip = American Dip

I can only think of one cataclysmical blunderous foolishness where that came from and, as it turns out, the French were right!  They managed to avoid a stupid war and at the same time avoided aligning themselves with the worst president in modern history.  And best of all… I’m not even sure they know what french fries are.  Wise, wise are the French.  I’m sure if WWIII breaks out they will have our back.  With or without the french fries.

My other guilty pleasure is French Toast.  After a few days camping in the mountains I like to go to Whistling Jacks for “Lodge Toast”?

Egad….

Walmart Spreading HIV in the Tri-Cities

Thought you were just getting low prices huh? Think again. Once again, Walmart proves it’s corporate citizenship.

Today is National HIV Testing Day. Planned Parenthood’s Teen Council, a group of young Tri-Cities Leaders, were scheduled to be outside of the Richland, WA Wal*Mart distributing information about HIV Testing and Prevention… until the extremist anti-choice group the American Life League stepped in!

Sad deal that Wallmart exec’s aren’t quite paying attention to one particularly glaring fact… HIV kills people. Testing and Prevention saves lives. And judging from the American Life League’s communications director, Katie Walker, they approve. The very first sentence of the recent post of ALL’s web site I find this…

Surfing through pro-abortion blogs and web pages, I’m always amazed at the twisted mentality that makes heroes out of killers.

I’m a bit confused… A group of kids want to promote education on aids and gets shot down by some anti-abortion group that convinces Walmart to ban them from providing testing and prevention information on Aids? Well, just a quick FYI for ALL… while your beef with Planned Parenthood over abortion will likely be ongoing (and there is little any of us can do about that), pregnant women get HIV too. It’s a virtual death sentence for both mother and child.

How the terms abortion and HIV get in a context of this sort of ideological dispute I can’t fathom. But if ALL is all about saving babies, they should be handing out HIV testing and prevention information themselves.

As far as Walmart is concerned, their own slogan appears to be the pinnacle of hypocracy…

Save money. Live better.

Nice…

Sonic’s News

I’ve been wrapped up in lots of personal biz lately and while I have much to write about, I don’t have time.  But something I’ve been following is the Sonics trial and the best news I’ve gotten so far is from Josh Feit over at Slog.  If you want to get up to speed, Josh has rounded it all up here.

The decision is coming in at 4pm.
