There is a reason newspapers are dropping like flies.  And today’s editorial is one of them:

The urge to “improve” on the standard version of our national anthem is apparently difficult for a lot of musicians to resist.

To this we say, “Try harder.”

Perhaps the most egregious example of the “star-mangled” banner was Rosanne Barr’s ignominious rendition in 1990. A truly unforgettable performance, unfortunately. Complete with crotch scratching and spitting.
